  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 1.5 cups cooked long grain rice
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 large egg
  • 15 oz tomato sauce, divided
  • 10.75 oz condensed tomato soup
  • to taste chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Soften the cabbage leaves by boiling, steaming, or microwaving until wilted.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian sausage, cooked rice, diced onion, salt, pepper, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, egg, and ½ cup of the tomato sauce. Mix thoroughly.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining tomato sauce, condensed tomato soup, and additional seasoning if desired.
  • Pour about ½ cup of the sauce mixture into a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Take a cabbage leaf, place ⅓ cup of filling in the center, fold in the sides, and roll it up tightly. Place each roll seam-side down in the dish.

  • Remove the foil, baste the rolls with sauce, and bake for an additional 10 minutes uncovered.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh cabbage for better texture.
  • Avoid overpacking the filling, and use quality meat for the best flavor.
