Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup Cornmeal
  • ½ cup Granulated white sugar
  • 3 teaspoons Baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Garlic powder (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon Onion powder (optional)
  • ¾ cup Milk
  • 2 Eggs
  • ¼ cup Vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring it reaches temperature by the time you’re ready to bake.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until evenly distributed.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: Add milk, eggs, and vegetable oil to the dry mixture. Stir well until all ingredients are fully incorporated and smooth.
  • Prepare Baking Dish: Lightly butter an 8"x8" baking dish. Pour the batter into the dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake the Cornbread: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 22–25 minutes. Check if it’s done by inserting a knife—it should come out clean.
  • Cool and Serve: Remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Cut into squares and serve with butter and honey for that perfect touch.

Notes

  • Over-mixing the batter can lead to tough bread.
  • Use an oven thermometer to ensure your oven’s temperature is accurate.
  • Add chopped jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne for spice. Wrap leftovers tightly to keep fresh.
