Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta al dente according to package directions (about 8-10 minutes).
Remove sausage meat from casings and crumble into a skillet. Cook over medium-high heat for about 5-6 minutes until browned. Transfer to a plate and drain excess fat.
In the same skillet, add minced garlic and pour in chicken broth. Sprinkle in flour and whisk until fully dissolved.
Cook until it reduces slightly, then add diced tomatoes, cream, and cooked sausage. Stir well and let cook until sauce thickens.
Season with salt and pepper, then add torn basil. Stir to combine.
Drain pasta and toss in the skillet with the sauce. Ensure each piece is coated well. Serve hot with freshly grated parmesan on top.
