Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Canned pineapple juice
  • ¾ cup Packed light brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup Rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Dissolved cornstarch in water
  • 2-3 drops Natural red food coloring Optional, gives a vibrant color.

Instructions
 

  • Gather and measure all ingredients.
  • Place all ingredients, except the cornstarch slurry, into a small saucepan.
  • Turn the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Once boiling, stir in the cornstarch slurry and keep stirring continuously for about one minute until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the red food coloring if using.

Storage

  • Allow the sauce to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.

Notes

  • Taste as you go to adjust sweetness or acidity.
  • Use fresh ingredients for brighter flavor.
  • Control thickness by adding water if too thick.
  • Consider alternatives like honey for different sweetness profiles.
  • Double the recipe for convenience.
